Dear mom,

You said just the other day that you only wished you would have been a young girl marrying your soulmate. As I read that my heart ached knowing how much of your life you’ve spent caring for others without having someone to care for you in return.

Being young you don’t always realize your parent has needs too. You don’t realize that she pay bills, has dreams or even has a name that isn’t ‘mom.’
I mean, I figured that one out when I was about four or five but it was still pretty weird to hear people call you ‘Scarlet’.

However, I didn’t understand that maybe your job wasn’t your ‘dream job’ and chances are I didn’t even understand the concept of a ‘dream job.’  I didn’t realize that you needed to be loved the same way I needed to be loved. I didn’t understand that you were just a big kid that had to grow up really fast because life handed you a few curve balls – to say the least.

But man, did you take them like a champ.

There is so much of me that wishes you would have found Joe when you were younger too, not because life was hard, but because you deserve to be loved well.  You’re one hell of a woman and not every man is strong enough to handle someone like you – passionate, opinionated, fearless and determined (just to name a few of your qualities), but I’m glad you’ve found someone to call home.

I hope you know much pride I feel in being able to call you my mom.

Love always,

P.S. You’ve always been a Queen.
